On the Gaza War, III

Day 95 and the war in Gaza grinds on, with Israeli casualties estimated at 1200 in Israel and an unknown number in Gaza, and maybe 22,000 Palestinians in Gaza, but really too many to count in the chaos that reigns. Israel is bound and determine to annihilate Hamas, which is a justified objective, but at what cost and to what end? The Hamas leadership deserves whatever horrific fate that may await them for the brutal acts of which they are accused and for bringing on to the already destitute Palestinians in Gaza this carnage we are witnessing.

Hamas has not in the past, nor does it today, represent the will of all the people of Gaza. Just as in pre-war Germany where the Nazi party comprised no more than 10 – 11% of the German people and in China, ruled by the CCP which is less than 10% of the Chinese people, likewise Hamas followers no doubt number less than 8% (my guess) many of whom seek only the economic benefits that participation brings.

The Israeli plan to eliminate Hamas leadership to the last standing Palestinian resident is foolhardy and counterproductive. The many who have lost their homes, their businesses, family members and friends may well create a whole new cadre of vengeful desperados, hellbent on reprisals.

Without a solution to the decades long Palestinian nightmare, without freedom to self-determination and without restoration of basic Palestinian rights, this bloody cycle will, in all likelihood, continue to repeat itself.

Nobody wants that, nobody deserves that.

  1. Thank you , I think this is a good thought provoking piece of writing.

I think you make a good case here for the importance of self determination. Something I have probably under appreciated.

    Love, joy, and peace……

    Sadly,I agree with you
Israel’s searching for freedom from attack is an impossible quest
Unfortunately the Arab world has allowed this pot to fester for years because the goal of pushing Israel to the sea was pretty much universal in the Arab world
Finally things were changing and I believe this instigated Iran and Hamas to act
