On Gun Control

How long will our do-nothing congress take to the air to express their heartfelt outrage at the senseless killing of innocent children, and then sit on their hands and do absolutely nothing?

Why are universal background checks so controversial and so political?

Why does any law-abiding citizen need to have large magazine, rapid fire assault weapons?

How can a mentally disturbed, 18 year old with known instability so easily obtain such weaponry?

Too many atrocities, too many excuses, too little action.

It has been nearly 10 years since the massacre at Sandy Hook that took the lives of 20 children and 6 adults, and countless similar killings since then. What has been done except toothless condemnations? Sorry, condemnations may feel good but they solve nothing.

We wage war in far away places but ignore the war raging here against our own innocent, vulnerable and unsuspecting children.

Yeah, I hear guns don’t kill, people do.

No, it’s bad people with guns that kill. Keep the guns away from bad people.

No solution will totally eliminate this growing problem, but there are things, obvious things, easy things, we can and should do, now, that will mitigate it.

We need serious, committed legislators to put aside political fears and tenuous campaign contributions and deal with this matter in a resolute, serious, bi-partisan way.

The mid-terms are coming. Let’s remember this.

  1. More killed and wounded in Highland Park over the 4th. Perhaps it is time to look at what other countries have tried in the face of their first such tragedy and the result of those changes? Australia and more recently New Zealand are two examples.
