On Gaza & the West Bank

It’s high time that we factor into our Middle East policies the essential Interest of America.

To our credit we have protected Israel for decades and that was fine, but our national interest is being severely compromised by our unyielding support for whatever Netanyahu wants to do, even when it is against our own values and contrary to international laws and the United Nations precepts that we largely authored. Israeli actions, which we enable economically, militarily and politically, make us complicit in the terrible things being inflicted on the Palestinians, not only in Gaza but also in the West Bank. These acts are destroying our international credibility that we have promoted worldwide and fought for generations to build.

And, by the way, the Harvard protests were not anti-semitic but anti-genocide. No school should ever be denied the right to peacefully protest injustices, especially when they are consistent with our laws and our value system. How can we penalized the finest University, not just in America but in the world, for exercising that right?

It’s time to show some resolve, time to put our foot down, not with just ineffectual words but with concrete actions. We must stop providing Israel with destructive armament that enable what the civilized world, and many Israelis, are calling ‘genocide.’ Enough is enough.
