Perhaps the most important attribute of the new administration we will elect next year will be its ability to unite this seriously divided nation.
As things unfold around us, it seems that the Republicans are unable to unify its own party, let alone the whole country. The Republicans are supposed to be the G.O.P., Government of the People, yet it is failing to listen to the PEOPLE.
A couple examples:
– Gun Control: According to axios.com there have been over 500 mass shootings in America so far just this year. Clearly, It is possible to enact responsible and widely supported legislation to limit the acquisition of lethal weapons by the unstable and the irresponsible without infringing on our 2nd amendment rights. But the Republicans seem unwilling to get behind this effort.
– Abortion: 51% of U.S. population (170 million) are women. While many may indeed be pro-life, women in general resent and reject government imposition of its often arbitrary and conflicting rules on personal and private matters which women consider to be their, and only their, domain of responsibility.
Meanwhile President Biden:
– is showing up at picket lines (first time a sitting president has ever done so) and showing full support for our 14 million Union workers – – and grateful potential voters.
– is pushing to offset as much as $20,000 per person in student debt. There are 43 million possible beneficiaries – – and grateful potential voters.
– is accommodating countless illegal immigrants, and providing them with an array of free benefits. Their numbers are reckoned to be over 10 million – – grateful future voters.
All the while, the best the Republicans can do is to consolidate support around an unlikeable former president with multiple Federal & State indictments.
If Republicans expect to win 270 electoral votes next November, they will need a candidate who will convince us that he or she can and will::
- exert every effort to bridge the giant divide between Democrats and Republicans.
- try hard to address the needs of 100% of Americans, not just the Republican faction. Otherwise, Republicans will need a ton of luck – – – better still, a miracle.
